Gia Carangi

Born January 29th, 1960, Gia Carangi became one of the most admired and unique American models of the late 70's and 80's. She died on November 18th, 1986 to AIDS. Not many cases were known back then of a woman dying of what would become one of the biggest epidemics of our time. Gia did not fit the typical stereo type of who would have this dreadful disease. Back in the eighties, no one knew anything about AIDS and labeled it as the gay disease. Her addiction to heroin and sharing used needles brought her to her death at the young age of 26. Gia became one of the first famous women to die of this disease.

  1. She was a very beautiful model..like so many models before and after her..she fell victim to the NEEDLE...a tragedy and a loss...

  2. Such a tradegy! I never realized I shared the same birthdate with her (except the year), she was really beautiful. What's scarier is that there continues to be deaths today when there is so much more knowledge.

  3. Gia was a beautiful woman whom was born before her time. She should have received the proper medication so she could have surpassed her troubles and fatal disease. Unfortunately she did not receive the proper medications nor respect. This was ignorance on behalf of those that surrounded her. Long live Gia!

  4. We see these photographs of beautiful people and think there couldn't possibly be a problem. I am just a few months older than Gia, and I remember seeing her photograph on covers of magazines and wishing I could be that pretty. But, I see now, there is a multitude of sadness behing those beautiful eyes. Sunset Memorial Park, Feasterville, Bucks County, Penn. Plot: Section M, 202, Grave 4 Rest in peace, Gia
